This week’s post is short and sweet, just like the featured cocktail. It also happens to be my last before Cameron and I move! I’ve been consumed with packing, running last minute errands, and spending time with family and friends, but am unbelievably excited to go.
For last week’s jalapeño margaritas I got quite a surplus of limes, and so have been brainstorming what do do with all of them. I finally settled on a gimlet, although with vodka instead of the traditional gin.
My first interaction with a gimlet was when I was in high school. No, it wasn’t the alcoholic version, but rather the Philosophy gimlet-scented body wash, which is no longer available unfortunately. I loved the citrusy-herbal scent, and the subtle shimmer that made the bottle, and my skin, glisten. When I encountered the cocktail for the first time I liked it just as much.
They are great with gin, but using vodka lets the lime really come through– its a bit like an adult limeade, but with a bit of a kick.
• 2oz vodka (or gin)
• 1/2oz-3/4oz lime juice (fresh is best!)
• 1/4-1/2oz simple syrup
- Add ingredients into a shaker, top with ice, and shake vigorously.
- Strain into a highball glass, garnish with a lime wedge, and enjoy
It’s a lovely, summery drink, but I’m also happy to enjoy these year-round, and hope you do, too! I’m excited for this next week and all of the excitement it will bring– wish me luck!
